Blog Post #2

I have used Microsoft Word for as long as I can remember. Since, I received my first Macbook at 4 years old, Microsoft Word has been downloaded on all my computers. I remember being actually taught how to use Word in computer class in elementary school. Then, around the time I went to Middle School Google Docs was introduced. Now I prefer Google Docs because of how easily accessible it is. I also like how quickly it saves your work and how easily you can share the document with other people. I do still use Microsoft Word when I need a more professional document that I am going to work on long term like a long essay or my resume.

The most meaningful standard to me is "Educators facilitate learning with technology to support student achievement of the ISTE Standards for Students". I have learned that educators should utilize technology for classroom management and to teach computational thinking. I do feel that sometimes educators overuse technology in the classroom. I remember in my high school english class, my teacher would give us a different Google Doc worksheet to work on everyday. I felt like I learned nothing in the class and was simply doing busy work, looking at the computer for an hour straight. I think a key thing educators could get from this standard is the management of technology.

I agree with the term digital native. I feel as though I am a digital native as I can not remember a time in my life where I did not have a computer or tablet. To be a digital native means you have always lived in a time of modern day technology. I think there is a difference between digital natives and most of my teachers as they were very slow using technology and I always felt as though they were just learning how to use most of this technology. I anticipate in the future I will be in the same position as my teachers. I will be slightly better since I grew up with technology but there will still be new things that I have to learn that my students will probably already be familiar with.
